CMS has posted a proposed regulation in the 8/22/06 Federal Register changing the rules on blood glucose reimbursement. In this section you will find a model letter and instructions on where to file your comments to oppose the CMS change.

Effectively CMS is proposing that a "standing physician order" is no longer accepted for blood glucose services and it will materially affects how and when a skilled nursing facility may bill Medicare. This proposed legislation is unduly restrictive and contrary to how we service our residents.

We strongly urge all facilities to submit an objection letter (using the model letter or your own) to fight this devastating proposed change. The more voices that oppose this change the more consideration and the better chance we will have to effectuate a change. You may use the model letter as is or make small changes (recommended) to personalize your dissatisfaction on the proposed change.

Your comment letter must be DELIVERED to CMS by October 10, 2006 in order to be considered. Letters to your Senator and Congressman must go out immediately to be effective.
