ORGANIZATIONAL STATEMENT OF THE DAUGHTERS OF ISRAEL FAMILY COUNCIL

 

DEFINITION - The Daughters of Israel Family Council is an independent, self-determining, self-governing group of families and friends of residents of the Daughters of Israel Nursing Home. The Council will meet regularly to carry out the mission set forth in this document.

 

The Council shall be governed by its members and assisted by the Executive Vice President of Daughters of Israel Geriatric Center and appointed members of the Board of Governors of the Center, as needed and requested by the Council.

 

The Family Council shall engage in a variety of activities chosen by its members in accordance with its mission.

 

Membership in the Family Council is open to all families and friends of residents and families and friends of prospective residents, for an annual fee of $5.00 per family. 

 

MISSION - The Mission of the Family Council is to promote the highest quality of resident care and assist family and friends of residents and prospective residents with problems regarding their role as caregivers and adjustment to life in a nursing home.

 

The Mission shall be accomplished through achieving the goals of the organization.

 

GOALS

 1.  Orientation, support and information to families of newly admitted and prospective residents.

 2.  Ongoing support for residents and their families.

 3.  Provide education, information and communication between families and administrative leadership of the Home.

 4.  Develop a mechanism and suggest resources to help family members resolve and process concerns and solve problems.

 5. Suggest resources for family members to enable them to access necessary

support systems.

6.  Develop and implement a process to help families with grieving over the death of a resident.

 7. Suggest programs to the Recreation Department.

 8. Participate in social action and advocacy activities, as may be deemed in the best interest of the residents and the elderly in the community.

 9. Provide "Bikkur Holim", visiting the sick, especially those residents who have no family.

 

GOVERNANCE - The Executive Committee of the Daughters of Israel Family Council shall consist of no more than 18 friends and family members with, whenever possible, equal representation from each unit of the Home.  It shall implement the goals of the organization through such subcommittees as may be deemed necessary. The members shall serve as liaisons between the DOI staff and administration and the residents and their families.

 

Officers:  There shall be a Chairperson to preside over meetings of the Council and to appoint committees; a Secretary to take minutes and keep other needed records and a Treasurer who will keep track of income and expenses.

 

The above may be amended at any time with the consent of a majority of the Executive Committee.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We encourage you to join the Family Council.  The Council meets regularly and provides many services and programs to our residents and families. Annual dues are only $5.00.
