“Using the New Dining Practice Standards to Excel in Dining”
The Aaron and Sarah Franzblau Institute for Continuing Education at Daughters of Israel is presenting the first seminar as part of its Spring 2012 Series, titled, “Using the New Dining Practice Standards to Excel in Dining.” The seminar will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (registration and kosher continental breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m.), at the Daughters of Israel Plafsky Family Campus, 1155 Pleasant Valley in West Orange, NJ.
Stemming from the 2010 Creating Home II National Symposium on Culture Change and the Food and Dining Requirements, co-sponsored by CMS and the Pioneer Network, was the creation of the Clinical Dining Standards Task Force, which crafted and finalized the new Dining Practice Standards Sept. of 2011. The standards have been agreed upon by 12 clinical standard setting organizations and will be referred to by CMS in the future. Come learn the standards, the evidence based research that backs them, and how they coincide with federal requirements from the facilitator of both the Creating Home II symposium and the Task Force. Be inspired to use the new standards to keep improving yours.
The course presenter, Carmen Bowman BSW, MHS, is a consultant, trainer, author and owner of Edu-Catering: Catering Education for Compliance and Culture Change turning her former role of regulator into educator. Carmen was a Colorado state surveyor for nine years, a policy analyst with CMS Central Office where she taught the national Basic Surveyor Course and was the first certified activity professional to be a surveyor also serving on the four year panel with CMS developing the new guidance to Tags 248 Activities and 249 Qualified Activity Director. As a contractor to CMS, Carmen co-developed the Artifacts of Culture Change measurement tool, authored the background papers for and facilitated both national symposiums sponsored by CMS and Pioneer Network - the 2008 Creating Home regarding the environmentand 2010 Creating Home II regarding food and dining. She then facilitated the resulting Task Force for which she drafted and edited the new Dining Practice Standards agreed upon by twelve national clinical standard setting organizations released by the Pioneer Network in Sept. 2011. For the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators grant project on the MDS and culture change she co-authored a manual called The Softer Side of the MDS. Carmen has a Master's degree in Healthcare Systems, a Bachelor's in Social Work and German, is a Certified Eden Associate and Eden Mentor, Certified Validation Worker and Group Practitioner.
